While most Japanese conductors care about vertical alignment of music with “downbeat,” emphasizing downward motion of baton, Hasegawa kept melodies singing vividly with the effective “upward” rebound to the rhythm. The way she gives instruction with the left hand is full of musicality and nuances, allowing such instruments as second violin, hardly audible otherwise, to substantially stand out. She didn’t rush to get to the big climaxes, consistently unleashing energy and there was no shortfall in the power of explosion. In Waltz from the “Sleeping Beauty” by Tchaikovsky played as an encore, sometimes she conducted the triple measure in two motions to produce changes – the approach that Carlos Kleiber often employed, giving us a glimpse into immeasurable potential of the rising conductor. I felt her Tchaikovsky was more like a dream of the composer’s longing for the Southern Europe than a pure Russian interpretation. An impressive debut of the conductor far beyond my expectation.

Ms. Yuki Hasegawa participated in my Conducting Course and Competition with the Duna (Donau) Symphony Orchestra in Budapest in August 2013 with a remarkable success and achieved the 1st prize. Ms. Hasegawa’s outstanding interpretation won the Orchestra’s sympathetic attention from the very beginning. Her musical intelligence, comprehension, and realization of the scores proved her extraordinary talent. I recommend, with my warmest belief, this highly gifted and cultivated artist to be supported and trusted in her strong responsibility in performances.

Unlike typical regular concerts, it was suddenly fully colored.

She is friendly (with State Youth Orchestra of Armenia). She is true musician, and also she knows musicians’ psychology and knows how to talk with them.

“They have strong individual way of expression. They have a way of musical interpretation, which goes by far beyond a simple playing. It is the artistic “Aura”, which makes this playing worth listening for a greater public.”

I feel that we share the same desire of musicality and sensitivity. With Yuki, I feel free to find beautiful sound colors, and to play smoothly. It’s a chance to perform together! (Jean-Pierre Lacour, ex-member of the Orchestre de Paris. After the 1st rehearsal in 2009.)
